Internet Safety

Another kid safety issue that has become a serious threat is cyberbullying.  What a cyberbully does is go onto a popular social networking site and write insensitive remarks or aggressive threats
against their intended victim.  Some of these cases of cyberbullying have actually resulted in suicides and the cyberbullies serving jail time.  These internet dangers are another threat to a safe internet.

Also, internet predators abound.  Children are vulnerable to this safety threat.  If you google CNBC “To Catch A Predator”  you will see just how many of these cyber safety threats are lurking.

    Internet Safety is a topic parents can no longer ignore.  Right now, your child can be doing a Google search on the word “sex” and then following the many links that are returned.  Right now, your child can be instant messaging with a online predator posing as a kid.  Right now, your child can be sending an email with their name, address, school, social security number, telephone number, birthday, and even your credit card numbers.  Right now, your child can be downloading and installing a program that can turn your computer into a zombie that serves adds for male enhancement pills.  Right now, your child can be planning to meet with somebody they know only from the internet. 

    Still think that internet safety is not of primary importance?

    Now for the good news.  Parents have many software tools available to them to help create better online safety for their child.  Parents can install IMLock internet filter and web safety software.  IMLock will help them to block programs, block applications that may get children in trouble, and even monitor websites their children are visiting.  It is also critical to block pornography immediately upon giving a child a computer with internet access.  Today, graphic images are readily available for free, and on advertising materials.  Accessing these images can also install a popup bot, which will them popup graphic images whenever a browser is accessed or the computer is switched on.
